Trolley and Perimeter Lots

The Village of Cooperstown encourages all visitors to park for FREE in three perimeter parking lots during the summer season:

  • Blue Lot: just south of the Village on State Route 28
  • Yellow Lot: just northwest of the Village on State Route 80
  • Red Lot: accessed from Glen Avenue (Routes 28/80) near Maple Street

All three lots are serviced by the Village of Cooperstown Trolley System. Trolley tickets cost $2.00 per person and can be used for unlimited rides on a given day.  Season trolley passes are also available for individuals and families.

The trolleys serving the perimeter lots daily, 8:30 AM – 9 PM, Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day.  In addition, trolley service will be available weekends only beginning the weekend following Labor Day through Columbus Day weekend.

For those walking, the Red lot is 6/10 mile and the Blue lot is approximately one mile from the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum.  There are not continuous sidewalks from the Yellow lot to downtown Cooperstown.

If you need to speak with someone regarding the trolleys, you may contact Birnie Bus at (315) 858-6444.

Doubleday Field Parking Lot

For those who must park more centrally for an extended period of time, a Village-owned parking lot adjacent to Doubleday Field can be accessed from both Chestnut Street and Main Street.  This lot is a paid lot daily from 9 AM to 6 PM,  from the Saturday prior to Memorial Day through Columbus Day. Parking in this lot costs $2.00 per hour with a maximum fee of $14.00 per day. Tickets can be purchased at either entrance as early as 7 AM.  Tickets purchased before 9 AM are time stamped to begin at 9 AM.

On Street Parking

For those who only need to park for a short period, on-street parking is available in the downtown area.  Paid parking is in effect 9 AM to 6 PM from the Saturday prior to Memorial Day through Columbus Day on:

  • Main Street from Pine Boulevard to River Street
  • Pioneer Street from Church Street north to the end of the business district
  • Chestnut Street between Main Street and Lake Street
  • Fair Street between Main Street and Lake Street

Pay and Display machines are conveniently located throughout the downtown area to pay for on-street parking during the summer season. The fee is $2.00 per hour and there is a 2-hour time limit, although you may return to a machine to purchase additional time.

Parking Permits

The Village has a Downtown Parking Permit System.  Permits enable holders to park in the permit-only Fowler Way Lot, located off Chestnut Street near the Chamber of Commerce, daily between the hours of 6 AM and 2 AM.  The same permit will allow holders to park in legal on-street paid parking spaces daily for up to two hours.  Permits are valid in the Doubleday Field parking lot, after 4 PM only.

The cost of a permit is $25.00 for the first vehicle and $15.00 for each additional vehicle applying for a permit as long as the vehicles have the same registration address.

Those desiring an annual permit must submit an application, and fee by mail or in person to the Village of Cooperstown, Village Clerk, 22 Main Street, PO Box 346, Cooperstown, NY 13326.  Both residents and non-residents of the Village of Cooperstown may apply.  Permits are only valid for the specific vehicle for which they are issued, and must be securely fastened to the permitted vehicle.

Permits do not guarantee a parking space and do not exempt the holder from posted time limits or other parking regulations.  It is important to note that the 2-hour time limit on Main, Chestnut, Fair, and Pioneer Streets remains in effect.

Off Season

Visitors during the off-season should seek parking in the Doubleday Field parking lot or for short periods of less than 2 hours in on-street parking places.

If you have questions or comments about parking or the trolley system, please contact the Village offices at (607) 547-2411 during regular business hours.
